rainmac - crikey, didn't realise it was as soon as that - its before the first birthday hamper I'm doing !!
We don't travel to see MIL on Mothers Day so I'll have to get started covering a shoe box to post

We'll probably be down visiting my mum in the care home and haven't a clue what to get her..........such a limit on space, photos she's got as well as plenty of plants, artificial flowers etc. Have to scratch my head on that one:confused:

  • My Mum also has her birthday in the same week (sometimes the same day).
My Mum is getting a joint present this year from me and my sister for both Mothers Day and Birthday.
Mum is off on her first holiday on her own - a working holiday with the National Trust (gardening) so both presents are related to this but ideas maybe useful for some else.
Mothers Day - Kind of a gardening hamper. Funky Wellies (Asda have some really nice ones and very reasonable), some new gardening gloves, and for when all the work is done a pair of fluffy slippers, hand cream, some chocolates and a bottle o wine.
Birthday - Digital camera and photo album ready for the holiday pictures. Looking at cameras now - maybe find one in the sales.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,
it's about learning to dance in the rain.

    some good ideas

vicster - thanks for the puzzle idea........MIL loves doing crossword puzzles and I could get her a book and put it in a box with some tea related things, tea, biscuits.........even a tea towel...........lol

Not sure when Mothers Day is

Had forgotten about tea things, thanks for reminding me! I found a mother's day wordsearch to download if it's of any use to you, the words are part of a poem if you see what I mean!

And also, might sound a bit of a silly idea, but for your mum how about some of those glow in the dark stars or something that you stick to the celing? or something along those lines?

MIL not a fan of wordsearch - she normally does the Daily Express crossword so is familiar with that.

How mum is, to be honest I think glow in the dark stars would either confuse or worry her. Nice idea if she were more aware of her surroundings.
I usually go a bit overboard with a card for her and I think last year that was enough for her - I put photos of her mum, her and me as a child in it so it was like having a picture as well.
Might do similar this year with a photo of me and my brother as kids.

Sounds a lovely idea Mary, my Mum loves it when I make her cards too, she usually asks for a poem or similar (I have a Creative Writing degree that's supposedly 'useful' LOL!). Hope you manage to find something for your Mum .x.

mary that sounds a lovely idea - a card and present (picture) in one. A photo of you and your brother as children would be lovely - would it be something she would remember?

I've got right into the making presents this year and have decided to make a bag for my mum to carry her knitting around in (she travels a lot) and making mil a tea hamper with different fruit teas, tea pot/cup for 1 (bargin in the Whittard sale!) and some of her favourite biscuits/chocolates.

My dad is a lot harder to decide on!!! (no fil) but I think I'm going to make him a 'reading' hamper with a couple of books, bookmark etc so he has something to do when my mum is knitting, on their travels!!!

Thanks Nelmer, the knitting bag is a fantastic idea:T just the right gift for my mam and MIL:D

I bought 2 fairtrade gift sets in the Boots sale for my mum and MIL. they contain a big cup and saucer, tea strainer and a box of tea. I will take them out of the box and add some individually wrapped tea bags, a door hanger and coaster and wrap in cellophane.

bunbun - well depends on how she is whether she actually knows or remembers but in the past she has and I remember one card I did with a photo of me about 2 yrs old, put some flowers on the front and sent it all wrapped in a cellophane bag........she kept it in the bag so not to spoil it and didn't realise there was a verse inside that I'd written and I''d managed to find some music called Mothers Day and printed that out for the inside too......lol That card stayed on her shelf until the following year when she got another one so she obviously loved it.

thevicster - I always write my own poems for Mum..........used to do a lot of that sort of thing for my Dad ........used to do a poem for every month -lditty type saying what had happened and do some drawings to go with it then I printed it out and got local printer chap to put a spiral binder on. Dad got one every Christmas for about 4 years before he died - he loved them as it was like a diary in verse.
Tried doing it for Mum couple of years back but she didn't bother to read it.Don't know what - she always enjoyed the ones I did for Dad - maybe that was it. It was something that she felt was meant for him,,,,,,,,who knows:confused:
