Don't have any Fathers to buy for sadly but have my mum and MIL. Theres a problem..........my mum is bedridden and in a care home so not a lot space for things and MIL is housebound and not able to do much......not really wanting anything that might want dusting and stuff like that and not sure she'd want anything hand made either.

Wow, you're early! I hope to make stuff but not sure what yet.

I'd like to make my mum a mini book/scrapbook with quotes/phrases about being a mum and also things about her with some pretty decorations. I've only got the idea in my head at the moment and no real plans as to what this is going to look like.

I guess if it works I could do the same for my dad couldn't I!

I think a journal in a jar would make a lovely gift for a mum.

    Bulbs planted in a pot.

How about a breakfast tray - tray with tea/coffee, mug, jam/marmalade (mini jars), homemade/bought granola or museli, homemade pancakes - just need to warm them through to eat...

Quite like this recipe box idea... http://crafts.kaboose.com/felted-recipe-box.html

Like this ABC book of mum/mom too... http://familyfun.go.com/arts-and-crafts/season/feature/famf0500momword/famf0500momword2.html

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's ideas :T

I don't have to make any gifts for this very sadly, not on hubbies side either.
Will be looking forward to seeing what you all come up with though.

In recent years I've given choccies and/or plants and make the cards - xstitch or paper crafts as I've been told they no longer need anything as presents. But after reading on this forum about those pots of gold and other interesting things, I might try something like that.

I was thinking about doing crossword/puzzle hampers for my mum and mil, just having a look to see if I can find some templates to make some personalised ones - have already got some blank postcards, envelopes, will save stamps from the royal mail surveys and crossword loo roll! I also give my best friend's mum something as well (she really is like a second mummy!) so far (it has to be posted) i've started a little treat box with posh soap, bath stuff, hair stuff, candle and pot pourri and nail stuff. Just want to add a bar of green and blacks and one of the teapigs fruit tea samples when I get paid, also hoping to make some little drawer fragrance sachets too. I was thinking about making my mum a journal jar but think I'll save this for her birthday!

I've got right into the making presents this year and have decided to make a bag for my mum to carry her knitting around in (she travels a lot) and making mil a tea hamper with different fruit teas, tea pot/cup for 1 (bargin in the Whittard sale!) and some of her favourite biscuits/chocolates.

My dad is a lot harder to decide on!!! (no fil) but I think I'm going to make him a 'reading' hamper with a couple of books, bookmark etc so he has something to do when my mum is knitting, on their travels!!!

  • This year, for the mothers I'm doing hampers. My MIL mentioned she likes REAL coffee but her daughter has borrowed (& probably lost) her perculator, so I've one of those for her in a set with some coffee & 2 expresso mugs. With this set I've added a few more packets of real coffee, all found in the January sales. Am going to keep my ears open to see what her favourite treat with a cuppa is, maybe a packet of biscuits/chocolate bar or cake.

For my mom I've been collecting Time Delay products each time I get a voucher for them from boots. I started with the ones I could get free with it, then added a couple of quid. She swears by the stuff after the last time I gave it to her, which should be running low now.

For fathers day I'll probably get a blu-ray dvd, or game for OH & either a HD-DVD or Terry Prachett book for the FIL. Everyone receives a handmade card either made by me, or the kids.
