Matt of Satin

I am in the process of doing up our lounge.
In your opinion what finish of paint should I use on the walls?

Definitely not satin finish as that is for wood and metalwork!

Most off the shelf paints only come in Matt or Silk these days unless you have them specially mixed in which case you can get a soft sheen, which basically is in between matt and silk.

Silk is shiny and tends to be a bit more wipeable than Matt (unless you buy an endurance one) and matt is supposedly better for covering any imperfections in walls.

Silk is good for reflecting light around the room and making it look bigger too.

After that it's all down to personal taste, I've got silk in my tiny downstairs loo, but matt in the lounge as I don't need it to look bigger.

    HTH!

If you're walls are a bit uneven, matt will help to hide that - satin would highlight the imperfections.

But as I say - not satin folks, as that isn't for walls!

But if you've kids, or the wall will get knocked about & marked, you'll find silk easier to clean up.

Silks easy to wipe over grubby fingermarks, animal marks spills etc. Try doing this with matt paint and it rubs off, guess it depends if you think your going to need to wipe it at all.

100% definitely (speaking from experience!) go for Dulux Endurance if you have kids!

I only decorated 10 months ago (Wickes Trade magnolia - don't tell my B&Q bosses! ;)!) and the lounge is in need of a total repaint. You try wiping any marks and the paint just comes off onto the cloth and leaves marks.

Have used Endurance at work and it does as it says on the tin - washable, wipeable etc etc. Expensive, but worth it with kids - or dogs who shake their dirty wet body all over the bl00dy walls too! :rotfl:
  • Dulux endurance is fab with pets and kids. Even washable in the matt without leaving a shiny bit.
