wrong housing benefit help

I started work for 16 hrs in october 08 and was told to pay the full amount of rent till my housing claim was sorted 69.99 i then got a letter stating i was entitled to 6.00 housing benefit,I informed them that they hadnt added my 8 yr old son who is disabled they then contacted me stating i was entitled to 62.00 housing benefit and i only had to pay 8.00 including rates does this sound right they have sent me a cheque for the over payment since october,on the claim for housing benefit are myself my 8 yr old and my 2 yr old the eldest is disabled can anyone help as i dont want to cash the cheque just in case and i dont think this amount is beleivable thanks in advance

    I think it sounds about right i know my housing benefit is mostly paid by the authority but you yourself have to pay for water rates and sewerage charges etc, so the excess is usually between about 6 and 8 pounds , i know thats what i have to pay , but the actual rent is usually covered in full which would be correct in your case .
    It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not.
  • You will need to check through your award letters . Check the income they have used to calculate your entitlement. Without knowing your income we wont be able to tell you if the figure is correct. Use the entitled to website and if your still unsure contact your Housing Benefits department.

    They are totally useless i placed my claim in october and have only got word back that its now 8.00 thats after being told 3 different amounts 1st 6.00 2nd 35.00 and now 62.00 and they say its based on my income ill post my total income in adifferent thread l8r got nosey visitors aka the sister ha ha
