My boyfriend has suggested we do this trip as he doesn't like flying but would like to visit New York as he has never been and I would love to go back.
Does anyone know how long we would be able to have in NY if we did a return TA cruise ?
Or any other TA cruises back from the anywhere in the US, we could maybe sail into NY, travel a bit then sail back into the UK.

as you say one option is to tie up the QM2 with one ofther other TA's from NY but these are mosly around April/May Oct/Nov

    eg
QM2 April 8th(good deals on this) NCL GEm April 18 4n in NY
This is the only one I could find with just afew days in NY.
there will be others that sail from Florida.

Well, if you want to do it all on the QM2, you are going to have either less than one day (arrive a.m. & depart p.m) or else about a fortnight
There are some crossings with short gaps than the 12 days round trip some specials that do a B2B TA with 4/5/7 days in NY (or take the QM2 that does a short cruise round trip from NY).

New York stays are available on these dates with a TA each side
    July 1-6th
    Sep 4-8th
    Oct 2-9th
    Oct 29-Nov5

I find this web site good for checking out cruise options and dates to match things up.

register as US to get more cruises showing

For one way flight from the US I use

[5.Again my recollection differs from franklally, soft drinks are chargeable (and I should know as I was addicted to PepsiMax then).

Sorry we're not fizzy drink fans but I would assume it would be chargeable - just water free then.

    Bottled water probably chargable,
Ships tap water is fine to drink no need to take bottles to the buffet the water in the tap in the cabin is the same.

Lucky you - we went on the QM2 August 2007 - a really enjoyable and relaxing crossing - loads to do on board for all ages - the children were 8 & 10 at the time and are desperate to go back on it again.

The food in the Brittania restaurant is wonderful - 2 nights were black tie and the other nights smart suit - the children had 'american style' steak and chips each night as they will prepare anything you like.

If you do not fancy going down to the formal restaurant you just go and help yourself at the other restaurants (Kings Grill?).

Take a water bottle for each person and refill at any of the restaurants.

Only alcohol was extra (there would be nothing to stop you bringing your own I guess) . We found it very cost efficient and would love to do it again.

We were on deck 5 B2 balcony - and had 2 rooms which were joined by the balcony - it was very spacious (we got a great deal on it). I would be very happy to share a room for 4 and I would not be too bothered about having a balcony - it was too windy to sit out on accross the Atlantic. There are loads of really comfy areas of the ship (library, games room) to sit and watch the view.

We had a brilliant time - I cannot imagine anyone having a bad time - nothing negative to say about it - other than we could not go on another cruise (other than Cunard) as it would never live up to this experience.

We cruise each summer and were thinking of QM2 transatlantic this year. How much was it in the summer for you all? Our children are a similar age to yours.

Summer is always expensive with kids.
For a TA with no ports going in the summer is less important so why not look at other dates(still school hols)

QM2 has a great deal on the 8th and 14th April crossings at easter. These were £499 and £549 on dec 30th both with flights so a B2B should be cheaper.

I think the 8th is nearly sold out but might have OV at £599 flights through cruise1st

the 14th still has the free upgrade to a balcony for £625 cruise only so around £800 with flight

    OK.Ta.

We picked up a cheapie last summer holidays but I do appreciate the chances are slim doing that again.

last minute cheapies do happen but family cabins or 2 together can be an issue.

I think this year we are going to see some bargains once the Jan/Feb booking season comes to an end, Not sure about the QM2 TAs though.

I appreciate that. Basically last year we didn't care if we cruised or not. We would only go if we got a superb deal, and we did. I am the same this year. No good deal I will go away in the camper van or find a cheap flight holiday. I don't mind it not being TA. Its just something I wold like to do one day so asked the poster how much they paid as their children are the same age as ours.

I am all cruised out now. Spent hours this afternoon looking for a good deal in our dates and getting nowhere as a lot ask me to call and I don't want to as I know I will just p$$$ them off.

I don't particularly care where we go or with whom but want a brilliant deal. When they ask for budget - I can't give that either as a good deal Cunard will be more than good deal NCL. I'm prepared to pay up to £3k total at the moment (exc tips) but no way would I go anywhere near figure that for NCL/FO.
