Thank you Hollydays. It is useful to get some advice rather than clever comments, so thank you.
  • I worked in retail as a student. I used to refuse all sorts but customer services would always take the customers side. Kick up a fuss with head office and they will give you a refund or vouchers. At the very least they should have offered you an exchange.

Thanks SolicitorMidlands. I am keeping my fingers crossed and will post what happens. I have kicked up as much of a fuss as I can and I think the HO are on our side.

    Solicitor Midlands is quite right.

The store may be !!!!!y, but Head Office will refund, if by any slim chance RI Customer Services refuse, google the MD and write to him direct. Although, I would recommend you ensure your letter is perfect with both spelling and grammar!

Good luck Neilsue (I also recommend you ignore the usual suspects useless comments above!)

  • Many shops sell returns that they know have been worn with the worst offender being New Look. The item might well have been a previous return.

If theres another River Island near you, try taking them there. Some store managers are just plain stubborn.

I had problems returning something to River Island some years ago ... the item was faulty, they wouldn't refund so just left the store and went to another and got a refund there.

  • Good luck getting a refund:D

I agree, I would try at another store. I would try for a refund, if having problems again, ask for an exchange ( and could take your daughter with you to get another pair/size) Saves the hassel of dealing with head office and waiting for refund.

I have taken Jeans back to River Island before and never had anyone look at lables etc.

Try another store, let us know how you get on....

  • River Island jeans have tags on which have been attached with a red kimble, which is done before the stock comes to the store, which is why the manager would have been suspcious if the tag was not in the right place. However, staff may re-apply tags that have fallen off, so you could have easily bought a pair that have just had the tag re-applied.

I would have asked the manager:
    - what is the store's policy regarding tags that have fallen off items? are they re-applied? if so, it is quite possible that this pair had had a tag re-applied.
    - has the store got the same red kimbles to apply to the items?

According to this article, River Island's managing director is Richard Bradbury.
