our house need refurbishing,
is it best to get one builder who will do all the work for us or to get individuals for each job.
i.e.
kitchen and bathroom refurb
re-roof
plastering
gas fires fitting
garden laid out - concrete , tarmac or slabs etc
increasing attic space , with a larger dormer

Depends on what you mean by best? Cost, quality, timespan, howmuch you want to be involved?
This is alot of work are you moving out?
I would look at getting priceing for each job.
The attic space and reroof is really one job.0 -
You can hire individuals but it will last longer and can cost more.
It will take longer to look through over a dozen quotes (a few for each task).
Who willl be planning the schedule of works? What if you plan badly and one team destroy the job already done.
Will it be possible to have all tasks done without long intervals between? Imagine your house as a building site for a few months!!
The one-stop-shop builders team will be the best...
Find some companies ask for a quote with separate calculation for the job you listed. That's my advice. If you don't know any company i can recommend one. Check in the google for "kobe-refurbishment"
good luck

Hi,
We're embarking on something similar at the minute. I ended up getting a building firm in that could do everything. Its much easier as you only have one contractor to deal with and its cheaper. You don't have to be as organised as they will sort out when they need the various trades to come in.
The only separate contractor we got in was the plasterer as the building company wanted £6k to board and plaster our 3 bed semi. We got a different plasterer in to do it for £2400 plus materials (which cost £800).
I got 8 quotes all together just to make sure I was getting a good deal.
If you need anymore help please ask!
