I've probably done this all wrong,I don't know, but i finally went to town today to attempt to open an account. Some of you know I went BR last march and was discharged in august and its took all his time, pathetic I know, to even walk back into a bank. Even today I felt that same feeling has I did on court day just walking into the bank.Well anyway, got blew out and I now have an appointment for monday in barclays. I'm thinking now I should have forced myself to open an account sooner after going BR ???? I'm totally dreading monday. Co op don't have a branch in my county. I can't imagine anywhere giving me an account : (

Co-op don't have one in my county either. I do on-line banking, use my electron card and post office. Why do you need a branch near you?.DxFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

The lovely people at the Co op opened my account over the phone in under 10 mins and my account number and details were with me within 3 days. There is no co op branch near me either.
I'm converted! I may even start doing my food shop there seeing as they're so nice!!

eklynne, you just took the words out of my mouth : )
I just got off the phone from the Coop and they were lovely. She explained that to pay in you just use your Post Office which is great! Thats what I was worrying about, wondering how it would work without a branch.
The lady on the phone made my day especially after having the lady in TSB make me feel like I was a complete criminal. I had to stop myself from crying when I left the TSB but it was more like tears of joy when I come off the phone, I was really expecting a no. What a stress head I am.
Maybe they gave me an account because they couldn't see what I looked like over the phone so they couldn't check their 'UNWANTED' poster Maxmycardagain lol!!!:rotfl:
Anyway thanks for the push Dalip, your advise is always more than welcome

Hi all. I recently opened a co-op account over the phone, there's not one in my county either. The staff were brilliant and everything has arrived, it took several days, cards, internet the lot. It didn't surprise me to read the other day that the government doesn't own a single percent of co-op, the chief exec said business was thriving and there had been a 61% increase in customers.
Hmmmm, I wonder why???????

My dp & i opened a joint account in Nov just before going br. Everything has been going that well with them today i have been & opened accounts for our 5 children. The co op is the best bank i have ever been with, so helpful & understanding. They have even let me open a cashminder account in my own name aswell as joint account.0
