HSBC stalling tactics ?

My partner is trying to reclaim bank charges from her closed account. Sent letter claiming financial hardship along with expenditure sheet. She received a letter today from the financial guidance team saying they will be contacting her to assist with the situation. Also in the letter they have written as follow -

The fact that you have incurred overdraft charges and are claiming a refund of those charges will form part of our overall assessment of your circumstances (as with all relevant factors) but our focus will be on considering what we may be able to do to assist, not solely considering refunding charges as you have requested.

What shall I make of this letter and any advice on how to approach them when we phone today will be very much appreciated.

Regards, Steve

Yep thats right. The refund is secondary and they are not obliged to offer anything, although if you are in mortgage arrears etc they will consider it. More likely is moving to basic account, repayment plans on overdrafts, stopping chasing of debts that kind of thing,.

did you call them yesterday ? and how did you get on ?
