HSBC Basic Account, should I get a debit card?

Hi All

I have opened a basic bank account with HSBC and today received a self servicecard but no debit card. Has anybody else received this card?

Can I ask for a debit card or do I have to run the account?

For some reason a basic account has been opened for you i.e poor credit, lack of ID. The standard advice given when I was at HSBC was run the account for 6-9 months then they can apply for an upgrade. that maybe a tad out of date tho, i left 6 months ago., hope that helps?

The basic card does not offer a debit card - this should really have been explained when you opened the account

AFAIK when you go into branch they do the full current account application and if it is not sucessful you get the basic bank account

You don't need to stick to the same bank.
