PPI/ASU Cover for part time self-employed

Been a lurker on the site for ages and made the occasional post, but hoping someone can give me some advice re. PPI.
I have a personal loan and several Credit Cards all of which I am paying PPI on, and having read Martin's advice am considering moving to a stand-alone policy to protect my income in the event of unemployment, sickness etc.
I am currently employed in the property sector, and whilst I don't believe there is any imminent threat of redundancy it is something I have to consider could be a possibility at some stage if things carry on as they are now.
I have been also been working on the idea of setting up a hobby business over the past few months in which my wife and I would be partners, however having looked at T & Cs for many of the policies available I wonder if in doing this PPI insurers would then class me as self-employed and prevent me from claiming unemployment cover on the PPI in the event of being made redeundant from my employed job.
In the hobby business I would make additional income which would be useful in reducing my debts, however I don't think I would be likely to make enough to replace my main income if I were to be made redundant.
Any ideas or advice from anyone would be appreciated.
