Father Living As A Tenant In Our Rental Property

We are thinking of moving our father in to our rental property as he wants to move closer to us, are there any special tax implications etc that anyone is aware of? Many thanks

No tax implications compared with other tenants.

Will he be claiming housing benefit?
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
  • No benefits involved at all.
  • The only tax implication would be if he had originally owned the property and gifted it to you. If that was the case moving back into the property might change the IHT position. Otherwise just the normal income tax if he pays you rent.

Not tax but if he is selling his own property and/or will have savings this might have implications regarding paying for at home care should he ever need help with daily living.
  • my brother rented his house to my mum who paid him rent when she was made redundant he left his wife and moved in with her as he was living there too she was not eligible for housing benefit and so had to look elsewhere for somewhere to rent
