Could you please elaborate, as I don't know what "purple parking" is...!

    :)
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

Purple parking is a company that offers long stay car parking near to airports. Usually this involves parking anywhere up to 15 minutes' drive away from the airport and being ferried in in a minibus. When you come back to the airport you either have to phone the company or be at a pre-arranged meeting point for them to collect you and take you back to your car.

I've used them a couple of times and so far haven't had any problems.

  • I used them about 18 months ago when I went to the USA. We too had to walk to another terminal but this was down to the fact there was building work at the terminal and BAA wouldn't let any vehicles near the building.

Did you come back from the states? If so, this may be the reason why?

I was quite happy with the service personally.

We've used them lots of times with no problem.

If we have hand luggage we phone to let them know we've arrived as soon as we're off the plane (subject to heathrow's terrible mobile phone signals), otherwise we phone when we've got the luggage as you're supposed to. Sometimes because of phone signal etc we have just gone and waited at the normal place, but if you don't phone they don't know you're there to pick you up.

At one point there was building work etc so there have been signs saying that Purple parking weren't allowed to pick-up/drop off at one of the terminals. I don't know what the current position is.

If you do use them for LHR, remember that normal traffic conditions in the area between the parking and LHR do mean you need to allow extra time for them to get you to the airport e.g. especially the morning and evening rush hours.

They were also very friendly and helpful when our car wouldn't start the last time we got back to the UK. They were there with their truck to jump start it within minutes.

I used a service a couple of years ago (not purple) that cost about £10 more for 10 days then this type of service, but you pulled up to the departures in your car then someone took your car and parked it for you, on your return you rang them from the arrivals hall and by the time you got outside your car was waiting for you - for the extra £10 it was well worth it - I shall def. be using it again next time I go abroad.
