New ScottishPower Online Prices

ScottishPower has announced an increase in their online domestic electricity and gas prices. The new rates apply to new customers with immediate affect.

This latest price increase comes within a week of ScottishPower announcing that they were commence charging 135,000 gas customers who are on a non-Transco gas network an extra £40 per year. Although ScottishPower do have to pay this additional charge to the Independent Gas Transporters (IGTs) it will however net ScottishPower a further £5.4 million a year.

This latest price hike, taking into account VAT and daily service charges, where applicable, means that ScottishPower Online customers will see their gas bills increase by an average 11.46% and electricity bills by 9.64% throughout the UK.

Energylinx have charted the effect on a standard domestic consumer who consume 19,050 kWhs of gas and 3,300 kWhs of electricity, paying by monthly direct debit operating an online account with ScottishPower – the results can be seen in the table below:

    This is a right pain.

I only just switched to Scottish Power.

AND they cold called me the other day, trying to get me to switch my electricity to them - even though they admitted their CURRENT price was higher than my current supplier's.

    Time for another switch methinks...

Hang on a minute, James. You state that this applies to new customers ... what about old customers?

This is a right pain. I started switching to Powergen, then they put there prices up, so I never gave them a meter reading. And now Ive tried to switch to Scotish Power online and they've put their prices up !

Anyone know what will happen to my first uncompleted switch to Powergen?

I dont think I better instigate another transfer, or who knows what will happen :o

Sorry for the delay I was away for a couple of days.

We have not yet been advised when these prices will apply to existing customers - as soon as we are aware I will update this thread.

I would recommend that you wait until you are least you are certain you are with one particular supplier until you decide to change again.

    Thanks for the response, James.

Is there are statutory notice period before companies (Scottish Power in this case) can put prices up? And do they have to notify you in writing or by e-mail?

Yes James, Ive got a feeling it is going to end in tears :'(
  • in east yorkshire .... were with brit gas and yorkshire electricity ..changed over 2 years ago to scottish power online ... always shown as around 18% saving and the cheapest ....

    until now ......

presumably because of the scot power price change .

running our details through 3 of the comparison sites ... all show more or less the same result .. that the london energy/sweb/seeboard people are about 13% cheaper than scot power ..

    BUT !!!!!!!!!!!
before i jump...anyone know if it's a correct comparison or is it that london haven't increased their prices yet and if they put through a 10-15% increase then i'm still ok with scottish power ??

To update you on my situation. Powergen have estimated a meter reading and have started supplying me. I wouldn't have thought they could of done this but... hey ho

I will go to Powergen then to Scottish Power, so hopefully I will pick up 2*£10 for transferring.

Is there any harm in changing supplier every month or so? And keep picking up the £10 transfer bonuses?
