HI there
Looking for some advice if possible. We have a mortgage on a 2 bed property. Our boiler is quite old (about 15 years at a guess)... Over the past few years it has broken down a few times and we have managed to get it repaired. The last time we called british gas out to try and go on their insurance plan..they refused us as they said that it was too old etc...
So we got a quote from them to replace - and this came out at approx £3.5k
obviously cannot afford that so we have left it and hoped for the best...our system is getting worse and worse and we have to fill it with water every day as the level keeps going to red. I assume there must be some sort of leak there as we here dripping from what seems to be pipes in a cupboard..
We have 2 young children (the youngest is 1) and if our boiler does break down then we will have no hot water either...
I dont believe that we are eligible for the warm front grant thingy as both our wages together are higher then the £15k allowance for WFTC.
My question here is where do we stand?? I mean with 2 young children are we elegible for anything else to assist us with payment. I dont believe we will get a loan because we have bad credit (not that we want a loan at all)
If this is in the wrong place, please can you let me know...
Kind Regards
Sylvia

Try someone different to British Gas.
They appear to be more interested in getting new business than doing repairs.
See if you can get some other (preferably smaller and local) plumbers to give you their opinion.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
I agree with the above - you will probably find someone who can do it for half the price of BG.
My guess is a local plumber will be able to fix the problem without a full replacement of the boiler.0 -
Your central heating system is leaking; the boiler pressure switch is sensing this and turning your boiler off. If you get the leak cured your boiler should work OK.
Do not use BG, they are the epitomy of rip off Britain.Steve0 -

No doubting this gasbag, but i've had dealings with BG when I needed a floor mounted boiler replacing with a wall mounted system boiler. Their prices are ridiculous when compared with equally qualified and professional private gas engineers. I was also told by a BG engineer who serviced my floor standing boiler (can't remember, may have been Ideal Mexico) that spares were no longer available for this boiler. It wasn't until I became a CORGI registered gas engineer myself that I realised how much he was talking out of his behind. Most of us know BG engineers are on commission for every boiler or service they can sell.Steve0 -
Bg tried to charge me £6000 to have gas installed from the road less than 50 yards away. Got it from national grid for £4350

I correct you there steve, as a Bg engineer i can confirm we get £12 for recomending a new boiler to a customer, not actually selling one!0 -
British gas do not carry out work of this nature so stop lying!david29dpo wrote: »Bg tried to charge me £6000 to have gas installed from the road less than 50 yards away. Got it from national grid for £435
