How any items listed on ebay is too much

Morning All,
I Ive stared to ebay, like most of us to get shut of stuff we don't want any more and to make a few pennies back.
Ive down loaded turbo lister and listed over 60 items on there, Ive started to list on a Thursday night for 10 days (what ive read on here)
Now how many items listed that your selling is to much or to less? , i mean people getting bored of looking what you've got to sell, ive got 30+ items on at the minute finishing this weekend and next weekend,
And also what is the best staring price for an item say a branded baby coat?, Ive stared to list items at 99p
What postage is best? the last items i posted out i did first class through paypal and charged £2 for something that cost £1.45 1st class.

As a buyer, the last thing I'm likely to do is look through your listings to see what else you're selling :) I will search for the item I need, not browse :)

    I may not be typical!

99p start is fine as long as you are willing to accept that the final price may be 99p!

Postage - work out how much it will cost you - that's the acceptable price :) If you find PP postage a bit flaky, use the RM site.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

It is best to list at the lowest price you are happy to accept, if that is 99p then that is fine.

You can't list too much as people usually browse by item not by seller. So for instance someone looking for a coat for a baby would turn up that single item, they may glance at your other listings but unless you have lots of coats for sale would probably not bother looking further.

I use 2nd clas spost but only because it seems that my sorting office sort labelled items from the post office togetehr regardless of class.

A couple of points to remember though. Firstly if you are printing postage online and using a post box you have no way of making a claim against the RM if an item you sell gets lost. Obviously you would have to refund the buyer, so the loss would be yours. If you want to be covered you need a certificate of postage stanped by the PO.

Secondly, watch your listing fees. If you were in the unfortunate position of listing 30 items but only selling say 5, the unsold listing fees could easily cost you all your profit on the sold items, plus some.

I did have 20 items that ended on sunday and only posted 7, i know what you mean, also if you have a watchers on an item when is the best time to relist the item, if it never sold????

Watchers are odd things if you had a lot but no bids it could mean either that someone has something similar to you and wants to see if it sells before they shell out on listing fees. Or, it means your item was quite expensive and people watched it just to see if anyone bought it.

You get a relist credit if you relist from the same auction within 60 days, but if it also fails to sell on the second attempt then you end up paying both sets of fees.

Also make use of the completed items facility, check the previous sales of similar items before you bother listing them.

Also be wary of the logistics of listing more than you are comfortable with - it takes time to pack and label and get to the post office - if all 60 items sold next sunday night and were paid instantly, could you cope with it?

I'm going to go against the grain with what has been said above though with regards buyers habits. If you are selling your own clothes, collectables or books for example, the chances are that a buyer that finds one of them, may well be interested in clothes the same size or style, or books of the same theme. It is definitely worth putting a link into to descriptions to "Click here to see my other items". When you create your listing there is an option to automatically insert this link.

My parents are emigrating later this year, and are listing EVERYTHING in their house - 1300 sales in the last 12 months, and many have been multiple purchases, especially in the collectables that my mum has hoarded over the years.

Absoutely yes, where shall I begin?

    1) why bother with all those silly terms and conditions, it makes you look a little naive frankly and put off serious buyers whilst not deterring scammers at all
    2) I'll be interested in how you intend to leave ngative feedback for a non paying bidder
    3) and the big no no...YOU are responsible for lost items. By putting that daft term in that you are not will definitely attract scammers and vigilante buyers who want to prove you worng.

If you are so new to ebay can I suggest you use it a little first as a buyer and see how it all works before oyu list a ton of stuff and give yourself a real headache.

Sell whatever you are comfortable with. Do you take your items to the PO, if so keep all your certificate sof posting safe for 6 months, don't be tempted to throw them away.

Then if an item fails to arrive you refund the buyer and reclaim your loss from the Royal mail.

Incidentally on all my accounts, even my business ones I have no terms and conditions apart from requiring paypal only from overseas bidders.

Legally you are responsible, and if you accept paypal (no choice on that these days) then whatever you write in the description does not overrule any Paypal or eBay T&C's.

If you were to purchase somethjing that never arrived, how would you feel about the seller sending you a postal receipt (and hoping that arrives) and you have to chase your own refund?

Too many "conditions" in a listing is a big reason to lose sales. It is easier for buyers to hit the Back arrow, than it is to read through them
