Grocery Shopping budget thread

  • It all depends on what sort of shops you have access to :)In the summer we grow most of our own fruit and veg, and don;t eat much meat, so food bills really drop then :T

I'll add this to the existing thread to give you lots more suggestions.

I agree with this, some of us live in remote places or islands etc, and telling us to shop at Aldi or Costco, or go to the market, or grow all your own veggies, is pointless as we don't have lots of supermarkets to choose from (we have Coop, Tesco and Lidl- a lot of islands don't even have that many!), we don't have markets as such, and a lot of things just don't grow very well in our colder temperatures!
Phew, that is it off my chest, but so glad someone else pointed this out!
We are spending more than we used to, we cook from scratch and don't have that many luxuries either (but we do sometimes, eg, crisps, we don't drink really though or have meals out etc, apart from the odd cheapo cafe meal or takeaway).

I'm not all that far from supermarkets -something like 15/20 miles, not sure - but too far to nip round at tea time for whoopsies. That bugs me !

Tesco is 16 miles from me, and that's a loooonng way for us! :rotfl:

It's being on an island that does it I suppose - when we lived in Swaziland we thought nothing of driving a couple of hundred km to the nearest town in South Africa to do some decent shopping. Our world has shrunk to Isle of Man size now :rotfl:
  • just wondering how much realistically i should set my target for food spends over an month - this is gonna include toiletries and cleaning products....

    £120, should be enough.
  • Our budget is £250 per month for the two of us plus one dog and one cat. I know this is much higher than a lot of people on here but it's a work in progress (down from £375 a month about 6 months ago)

If your budget is quite tight then meal plan, look for whoopsies and join the grocery challenge as this has loads of recipe suggestions and lots of people supporting each other

    cheers

Oh my goodness, I don't even want to say how much ours is - too embarrassed! suffice to say it is much much much more than most people's on here :(

When I was at uni, I used to feed myself and boyfriend for £20 a week. It was only about 5 years ago so prices not much different.

I think in an ideal world I'd aim for £50 a week for us both, including cleaning products and toiletries...again, don't want to say how much we ACTUALLY spend!

We spend a maximum of £40 a week most weeks. So an average of £160 a month, some weeks it's a lot less some weeks a little more. That's could still be cut back a bit though....

  • We spend £50 a week on 2 Adult, 1 Child, 2 Cats and 2 Rabbits...

I would say £30 is a good amount for 2 Adults.
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!
