by the same token I do not get to browse the reduced bits..

i also am the same, unless it is in my meal planner, i'm not actually saving by buying items just because they are reduced if i wont use them.

sometimes if i see milk reduced i will buy it ( but it still has to work out better than the 2 four pinters for £2. few years back morrisons reduced all milk to 7p, great bargain. or maybe bread.
  • Still can't order online and failed to blag a lift to the nearest Tesco store. So far I spend more on the bus than I hoped because it is such cold weather and the children are complaining about walking for 40 minutes to school. At least one of them has growing pains. Hopefully I can order online in a couple of days. Some of the products I couldn't get anywhere else in town for this price. At the moment I spend about £85 a week on food and cleaning items and toiletries. Would like to bring it down to £50 a week including bus travel.
I never realized how much personal info is out there that can be used and abused to suit every purpose.
  • We've been spending FAR too much in the supermarket so I've decided to set a limit (Much to my OH's dismay!)

    So - Our situation is this. We're a family of 3 (plus 3!) x2 adults, x1 4 year old a dog and 2 budgies!

How much - realistically - should we be able to live on? (Please remember this is going to be a huge change for us and will probably struggle to drop straight away!) Looking for a cost for now, then something to work towards.

We usually go to tesco's once a week and spend up to £60

OH isnt working and im feeling the pinch im afraid!

to be honest it depends how much you want to save .. ie https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1157641

perhaps if you could post a few shopping lists from your old reciepts we could suggest some savings?
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

Hi, Yes, we really need to see what you spend the £60.00 on now. Its all relative you see.

I work on, and generally stick to, £65.00 per week for two adults, food, wine, toiletries and cleaning things, the last two make up about £2.00 if that, a week, including loo roll, were as someone else could spend £10.00 on bubble bath - IYSWIM

if you are really careful you could probably do it for about £35, but it will be a struggle.

We are a family of 3 and I spend about £50 a week, but this includes everything including packed lunches.

It will depend on what you like to eat and how much cooking from scratch you are prepared to do, you will also need to go to a few supermarkets to get the good prices and keep your cost as low as possible

There's a thread of budgets here - prices have gone up recently, so best to start at the end :) I'll merge this later once you have some more input.

  • we're a family of 4 and we spend at the moment £40 a month on meat from the local farm shop, £20 a month on aproved food for our junk food, £8 a week in the greengrocers for fruit and veg, and £20 a week in tescos, which i'm really happy with.

as i'm at home I cook everything from scratch and this is what has brought our costs down but we spent ages shopping around to find where was cheaper, and before i go to tescos each week I check on my supermarket to make sure they are the cheapest for what i want so i would def recpmmend doing that. also we have dropped a brand or two where possible as well and this really saves us money too.

I was spending around £150 a week, for two adults, a 14 year old girl, and a very small cat, on top of that we were all buying lunch everyday too! ridiculous waste of money. Too many ready meals, too much waste, zero planning.

I now do a meal plan, I try to base at least one meal out of existing produce in the freezer, and cupboards, and I shop at Aldi for most things, and fill my fridge up. I spend around £55 -£60 there, that includes cat food/litter, washing and cleaning, all toiletries (except toothpaste!), and I have an extra £10 in my purse for bread and milk in the week. I have more than halved my spend and we all take packed lunches everyday. I cook most meals from scratch, and while it is labour intensive, I enjoy it too.
I know I can get it down even more, and thats my current challenge. indebtinsussex totally has my admiration for being able to manage on so much less than I can.
