tbh it's not meals i have trouble with per say it's children with hollow legs who make eating/snacking a national past time.

im just trying to bring my spend down and it's soo hard, i don't think i spend a gross amount but i know it needs to come down futher than it is.

I already pad/bulk out meals, bargin shop, scout for whoopsies, eat leaftovers etc just not sure what else to do.

You could try the old Yorkshire trick of serving Yorkshire pudding with gravy BEFORE a meal, or a good hunk of bread with the dinner.

    Hi Taye

My boys (with extremely hollow legs ) have grown up and moved out now but I always made sure I had bread (value, they weren't choosy) and cheap jam and cheese spread (used to stock up when on BOGOF) in and also made scones, iced buns etc. The rule was that they didn't eat anything else without my say. Theres nothing more annoying than finding out that theres nothing for a packed lunch 15 mins before schooltime.

I hope this helps a bit

    Hi there

I was just wondering how much would be classes as "acceptable" for a weekly shop for 2 people?

My OH and I spend nearly £60 on food (this is for breakfast, lunch & dinner) we don't go crazy but I still think this is too much.. he thinks it's ok!!

    What do you all think???

    Hi,

That's about the same as what I spend too and by the time you take off expensive non food things like cleaning products etc it isn't really that much given the price of things.

We spend around £50 - £60 for two adults, a cat and a dog. I suppose it depends on whether you are eating the things you want to, whether it's healthy and whether you can afford it.

I'd like to see my bill go down a little but we eat fresh fruit and veg every day, have good quality meat and the dog has a hm diet of chicken / liver / mince, veg and rice which bumps up my food bill. If I ate processed rubbish I think I could save loads but I'm not prepared to do sacrifice health and wellbeing over a few pounds :D

For 3 of us I try to not go over £50 a week, but I usually do a big shop every 2 weeks and a little one inbetween - that includes all cleaning and toiletries.

Depends on so many things - how much you can afford, what you eat, what shops you have available

We have a thread dedicated to people's food budgets, so I'll merge this so that you can compare ;)

  • I was originally aiming for £150 per month but have started on £200. This is mainly because we have not long moved into our house which meant all budget went out the window:o

So this month I am trying to stay under £200 which seems to be going very well so far. We did a 'bulk' shop at Costco at the end of last month which has helped immensly.
Now I feel I have got an adequate store of staples so I am doing a small top up shop on a weekly basis for milk, bread etc.

Any extra money that is left over will be siphoned off into the savings account

Next month I am aiming to do £150....:A
