Cost to have worktop fitted?

Hi,

The more we think about trying to fit our worktop ourselves the less confident we feel - especially about cutting it wrong and ending up wasting a few hundred pounds!!

But ... please could anyone advise what would be a fair price to get someone in to do this? It is a U shaped worktop plus two individual pieces either side of a ceramic sink.

The U shaped bit will I think need two joins and it would be nice if these could be mitred ones rather than butt joints.

Also who should we be looking for to do this - a carpenter or kitchen fitter?

Many thx in advance.

  • Hi

mitred joints are quite a specialised job, not all joiners/carpenters will do it. Best to look for a Kitchen fitter. Expect to pay around £50-75 per mitred joint, and maybe £25 per cut out.

From what you say, ballpark might be around £150-200.

Agreed, it is an art in itself to do them properly, my SIL does them and says that your figures are about right.;)
  • Hi,

Many thanks for these helpful replies. Yes, I thought mitred joints would be a nightmare - certainly if we were to attempt the worktops ourselves they would be the straight (butt?) joints if anything but if we decide to get someone in (which looks more and more likely as we become more and more nervous about sacrificing expensive worktops to mistakes .... lol) thought might as well get mitred joints.

Thanks once again for the price guide.

    Kind regards

    days work plus material

    approx £220-£250

Make sure your tradesman uses a new cutter otherwise your mitred joint will be chipped to bits,it may be standard practise to use anew cutter for every paired joint but you would be suprised how many use them over and over!
