Stupid question about cooking a stew in a slow cooker

I always add a bit of Maggi, which is a stock you can get from supermarkets, i use it in everything.
Also sometimes i put stuffing mix in, and often add a few dumplings on the top!!
Loverly!!
I LOVE my slow cooker!!0 -

Agreed! Not using Maggi (or Aramat) should be an arrestable offence, but I cannot believe how expensive it is here, I found it in Carrefour in Prague for the equivalent of £1 per liter (thought I would get knicked for Maggi smuggling too:D) Two weeks ago I found some in weird bottles and Indonesian writing for £1.47 per 750 ml - So I cleared the shelf of that as well.
Long live Maggi :rotfl:The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
I have another stupid question.
I'm cooking a joint of beef in my slow cooker as we speak and it has one of those string net things round it. Am I supposed to take the string off before cooking or leave it on? I'll tell you what I've done when you answer

I alwys leave the fishnet tights on my joints until I'm ready to serve it! It cooks better and stays in shape after it is cooked that way.The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0

Not a stupid question at all BB - if you dont ask how are you ever supposed to learn new stuff??
Anyhoo, how did your stew turn out???
PS - just for another point of view, I add gravy granules if I dont have stock.I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0 -
I made a lamb stew the other day using Marigold Vegetable Bouillon. It worked really well.0

thanks for your reply. I haven't made the stew yet as I have both my daughters sick with a bug and I've had to take time off work. I'm just getting ideas ready to try and make one in the near future and I will definitely need to get some bits for it from the shops first. I've got a big long list of ideas ready and waiting for when I can find my slow cooker and get organised

Ahhh another family with the dreaded lurgy
hope they're better soon.
You wont regret digging the old SC out, it's a life saver! Only thing is, you have to remember to take your meat out the freezer the day before you want to cook it!! (Note to self - take the blinkin meat out the freezer muppet!!) Can you tell I regularly forget???
