[/FONT] One was that I put my maiden up in the large lounge (normal practise in any house i've ever lived in) as it "wasn't nice for visitors to look at" but they line their knickers/thongs and bras up on the radiators to dry them!!

Seems to be a northern term for a clothes airer http://www.oldandinteresting.com/clothes-horses-airers.aspx
I wouldn;t put one up in the lounge - bedrooms only IMO.:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

It's very rare that there would be sweet harmony in any group be it a shared house or an office....
there is usually one that doesn't like you and there is nothing you can do to change her mind, don't stress about it, it's her problem she has to deal with it. You've got her to face up that she was a dirty madam and that she needs to clean up behind her and she resents that.
Perhaps she feels you a threat in the household of being popular... you know what us women are like, you say you are shy etc, to others you could be mysterious
or perhaps you don't fit into her face book gang, from what you've said about it, i wouldn't even try to impress someone like that.Life is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
well it seems something has shifted , although I havent a clue what....
I spoke to her in passing (without even thinking...) and she has been all fine and dandy with me since!!
I will be much more careful with her from now on and do as I please as it seems I care FAR too much about what other people think and how they are - her being off with me made this last week or so very uncomfortable....
I do like things to be organised though - it really annoys me that there is freezer stuff taking up space that hasn't moved in months but moving it/getting rid of it would be asking for trouble.
I dont know what I will do once I graduate as (hopefully) my earning potential will be more and so I will be able to afford to pay more rent. I just feel very wary of doing anything just in case it upsets them/her. I lived with this at home for yrs with my Mum's various bf's and then my step-dad and I dont want to ever put myself in a similar position.

Jen, you may not realise it, but there are very few people who are truly confident. Even people who appear 'popular' and 'super-confident' are usually riddled with self doubt. You may be shy and not say a lot and this could come across as being the strong silent type. You may be more of a threat in her small world than you realise.
The thing is, while you were spending the week in a state, she was probably equally in a state about over reacting or not reacting appropriately and said nothing because she was embarrassed, it was awkward and she didn't know what to say.
It took you to say something in passing for her to realise everything was ok and you weren't holding a grudge. Now you are (almost) back to normal in the house.
Did the girl see you in town? Possibly, possibly not...if she's anything like me I put my earphones in and trot along through the crowds in my happy world thinking about stuff until I'm stopped by someone. A few weeks ago that was my husband who I apparently looked straight at and walked past until he grabbed my arm and stopped me.
95% of what we fear will happen in the future are just that - fears that our brains come up with to try and anticipate trouble and keep us safe. They rarely ever happen yet we end up being trapped by them."carpe that diem"0
