Recently I moved - the guys from a local firm turned up with a load of Pickfords boxes. I later found out that they are sub contracted to work for Pickfords so I think if you shop around it might be better. Pickfords may get a local firm and add their margin on top.

If you feel comfortable though then pray proceed!
  • I moved recently and used Arrowpak. They were absolutely brilliant - I was rather stressed and they couldn't have been more helpful and efficient including having to dismantle a wardrobe which had not been anticipated. They weren't the cheapest - I left things a bit late so hadn't time to shop around much - but for quality of service they were outstanding in every way. (And, no, I don't work for them - it was simply a "google" and phone call and their customer service by telephone was a good start - better than a few others I had phoned)
  • I've done a lot of international moves with various companies in the past.

A few years ago Pickfords moved me back to the UK.

We arranged the date for my furniture and everything else to be delivered, waited for them in the empty house and ............... nothing! They had forgotten to book in the delivery! Several phone calls later, they admitted it was their fault and the soonest they could deliver was about 5 days later. Fortunately the rented house we were staying in was still vacant, so we unpacked the suitcases and they paid the extra rent.

The unpackers were ok, but there were a few 'we don't do that' which took a couple of calls to their boss to resolve.

Out of all our moves Pickfords were by far the worst.
    I can spell - but I can't type

I have used Pickfords on two occassions & recommend them - it's amazing how they manage to get furniture out of and into the most unlikeliest of places.

We found Pickfords to be quite poor - we used them for a move from Scotland to the south east - had booked the packing service - the guys on the van knew nothing about it. Deep Joy on moving day.

They turned up half a day late - it left our buyers sitting in the road for hours with their removal van

The stuff had to go into storage for a few days - furniture was damaged along with some other bits and pieces.

The next time we used a local company that had been recommended and they were far better.

Used Pickfords 11 yrs ago, they were efficient, friendly and careful. I don't know if it's still the case but a Summer move costs more than Winter move. Also in Winter you would get full time removal men, in Summer you may end up with a casual in the crew.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Pickfords have recently made 120 staff redundant, and more may go. Although were bought out at Easter, are now (according to brother who works there) in a severe financial situation. They do sub contract to other companies, they do use a lot of temporary crew, and they do sleep on your furniture in the veichle overnight! They also require full payment 10 days before your move.
