food wastage by tesco
Forgetful

I just got back from tescos this evening and there was loads of free range eggs reduced to 75p for 1/2 dozen...about 60 boxes of them.
At 9pm when I was there the chap working there just collected them all and put them all in to a bin bag to be rid of... same with some yoghurts and some beef...
what a waste..
they could at least maybe reduce them a bit more and sell them rather than throw them out...
and yet we pity those who are less fortunate with no food!!!1
shame!

did you check the shelf dates, also known as the dates that state how long they are allowed to stay on the shelves, because if that day was today, then if they were still there tomorrow, tesco could have a very nice legal issue to dealJuly Wins - Stargate Universe DVD Set0 -

or doesn't come on here and claims compensation for food poisoning..0 -
Eggs are an unusual case since by some legal quirk their sell-by/ display-until date is a whole week before their use-by date. I completely agree that they should have been further reduced (e.g. about an hour or so before closing time) or given away.
Eggs are not necessarily fit to eat before their use-by date and unfit afterwards: the best way for consumers to check is to immerse them in water and discard any floaters.0 -

If they haven't sold 60 boxes of eggs by that time of night...0

My record is selling just over 300 boxes of reduced eggs in 3 hours! Customers got a bargain that day! :dance:0
