I am a unpaid trustee for a charity. They currently use Excel data base for records, but this does not give 'at a glance iformation'. What simple software can be recommended for recording purchases, sales invoices, stock control (what is held, what has been sold, etc, + cost of item, sale price of item, who sold to, etc)? PC World recommended MYOB Accounting at £288. The MYOB BusinessBasic at £60 did not include stock control. Is this a bit pricey for a charity?
This is not necessarily a recommendation, but where I work we use QuickBooks, and I think it would do what you want. However, we are getting good support via our auditors, who recommended it to us, and you do need to put a lot of thought into what you want out of it in order to make sure you set it up right. Also the Simple Start version probably won't do what you want, you need Classes as well as Accounts. The Accounts tell you what you've spent the money on / received it for, and the Classes tell you which 'teapot' it should come out of / go into. ('Teapot' is a technical term used by our Treasurer in this context.)
