im in the process of buying a reposession 3 bed terrace. it has been empty since october and the central heating system was drained down. is there any issues when turning the water back on and filling it up again? can the pipes get damaged when empty, even though its been so cold over the last couple of months?

If there's been no water in the pipes then bursts or damage shouldn't be an issue. Personally I would get a plumber in to recommission (sp) the system though as you have no guarantee of what condition it was in before it was drained down.0

how much is it to pay a plumber to recommission a central heating system? anyone know?0

To do it properly the engineer will also add an inhibitor to the system (eg Fernox), not just fill up with water.0

You'll have to ring one and find out. Get a few quotes. See if your local trading standards has a list of recommended plumbers. Ours has a tradesafe list0

hi, just arrange for a gas man [corgi reg] to come out and service and check the boiler and then at the same time for him to pressurise that he will have to turn the water on and so then you won't have to worry too much. that's always what i;ve done and always cost less than £100. call your local letting agents and ask them for the tel of a good plumber.0

We bought a reposessed house. Somebody previously had slackened off the little valves in each radiator ( the ones you use for bleeding the radiators). I didn't realise that when the mains water supply was restored.System seemed to filling up nicely and off I went to work. What a nice surprise I had when I got home.0

is there a plumber on here that can tell me the process of turning the system back on please???0

Get the instructions for it. BUT seriously it's well worth having a professional to do it in case something goes wrong.0

If you are unsure of the process to refill the CH, I would also suggest you get a competant person to do it for you.is there a plumber on here that can tell me the process of turning the system back on please???
Whilst it's quite a simple process to refill, the worry is if you don't know how to do that, you won't know how to correct any faults that filling it may identify."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
