Is this the weirdest Monitor problem ever?

Hi.
A relative has a LCD montior. It switches off after a second or so and she has to push the button to get the screen back on, then it goes off again.
Not weird?
Well, she has discovered if she does this several times until she can connect to the internet, then it's fine. Yes, I've seen it for myself. Until you connect to the internet it will not stay on.
I've tried updating drivers etc... any ideas guys? I haven't tried on another PC but it's a little akward to do this and a long story why not. It's also not if a window opens full screen.
Thank you in advance for your replies.

how does she connect to the internet? Is it by USB modem?
My 1st thought is a power problem to the GPU...maybe once connected less power is being drawn....

Try it on another PC. I can't see how being connected to the 'net would be related. Although if the monitor is made by Fiat, then anything's possible.0

I'll give it a go if all else fails. An no, it's not a Fiat, it's a LADA... arg... Can anyone explain to me how to put a signature here?

Sounds like the monitor power supply may be about to fail. Seen something similar happen a few times to different monitors now.0
