Just wonder what will happen if SP decides to reduce their tariffs!! I have fixed mine until 2011.

I suspect the word 'fixed' in the title of the tariff is significant.

But staying until 2011 is optional - you are free to pay the exit fee and change tariff if you like. It is not a business contract.

I don't think there is an exit fee on that SP deal, but you would need to consider that prices might rise again!
  • The 2011 fix, you are on unit costs that did not increase on 01/09/08. If prices drop by say 25% for the gas and 5% for the elecricity you will still have cheaper rates because on 01/09/08 the gas went up by 35.5% and the elec around 12%.

So you are realy going to have to do alot of reserch yourself befor changing off the tariff or you could end up kicking yer'sel.

At the moment, the movement in prices is definitely downward. If you accept that theory, then surely in a year's time fixed deals will be cheaper than this 2011 fix?

Can one pay an exit fee to Scottish Gas to get out of an agreement?

Don't know about Scottish Gas (ie British Gas - same company), but they all operate on a similar basis.

With Scottish Power for example, the 2011 Fixed price deal has no exit fee - you are free to leave or change at any time.

For signups/deals taken out since approx June 2008 (?) they added an exit penalty - two in fact, one for gas, one for electricity.
