Dell Latitude D530 Bios Password

Please can anyone help me as I am tearing my hair hour 2 Weeks ago I bought a Dell Latitude D530 From a car boot for my nieces birthday, it was shown working running Windows XP, the man said I would have to buy a Mains charger as he had broken the one that came with it and was using his wifes. Anyway got a mains charger couple of days later and when I turned the Laptop on it says, "This Computer System #4Y9SH3J-595B,is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data without the correct password. I've been back to the Car Boot twice but cant find the man I bought it off. Have tried to Re-install Xp but cant as it wont let you get past that password screen. I contacted Dell who said I will need to do a Ownership Transfer but will require the original owners details of which I do not have ?. Is there anyway of finding out what this password is as its my Nieces Birthday tommorow and will feel a bit cruel giving her a laptop she cant use.
Many thanks in advance.

Is there a mini-cell battery to keep the BIOS memory?
If so, perhaps you could just take it out to clear the memory and put it back in.

Loaner- I did try to call Dell Again, they asked me for the service tag which I gave them as its on the sticker at the bottom of the laptop and then they asked me for my name and it says it didnt match there records.

Prowla- there is a battery the size of a 2p coin which I removed and left out overnight along with the main battery and tried it again in the morning and no joy the password screen still appeared. Searched all over google and tried about 200 different mastercodes and some software that somebody pointed me in the direction of but still no joy, I know the laptop is not broke as I saw it working and had a little play with it before I bought it.

havnt seen you around for a while Jay.

anyway, is there some sort of temporary boot selection menu (try all the usual keys, f2, del, esc) that will allow you to boot from a cd?

has the laptop got a floppy drive?

if so, then you could try and start the xp installation from a floppy disk.

is there some kind of jumper inside the laptop that will erase all the bios/cmos settings?

You won't ever see him again because the laptop is stolen. No mains charger and password protected BIOS? Some company is now a laptop short.

A problem with stolen laptops I've heard -the above suggestion of fresh install sounds worth trying

The "take out the battery" trick does not work in Laptops, I had to remove a BIOS password from a Dell Latitude a while back and it involved locating the NVRAM Security chip and soldering pins 4 and 8 to a long loop of 22SWG wire trailing out of the machine and semi-rebuilding the laptop, switching on the machine and cutting the wire loop at the same time, resets the chip back to factory defaults. Try at your own risk!

Too bad about the cell battery attempt.
I suppose you could try contacting Dell and convincing them that you are the rightful owner.
Alternatively, systems often do have jumpers that will clear the battery, but it is system-dependent.
    Good luck!

Once you take out the cmos batteries; the password will revert to the ENGINEERING Password; which is derived from the machine TAG no.

There is a dell password BIOS program floating around; but you would have to google for it.
