Tesco car insurance cash back question
dellaclearing
Hello everyone,
Whilst searching for some old documents I found an unopened envelope from Tescos. Inside there was a cheque for £50 as part of their cshback deal to new car insurance customers.
The cheque is dated 9th March 2007, does anyone know if it'll still be valid? I'm no longer with Tescos as they offered me an offensively more expensive renewal than their competitors this year, but I'm hoping the money is still mine regardless!
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thank you.

Although most banks say cheques have to be presented within 6 months or in some cases 3 months, there is no length of time after which a cheque becomes invalid. In the first instance I would attempt to pay it into your account. If they do refuse to accept it then I would write to Tesco and explain the problem, the may replace it.I have retired from a career in Financial Services........Thank God. Any advice given may be as a result of senile dementia so dont take it too seriously.......

"offically" in the sense that it is common practice it is now invalid. But in reality it is valid for 6 years.

" How long are cheques valid for?Banks will usually reject cheques that are more than six months old but, in fact, it's at their discretion. They can choose to cash it if they want to so don't assume that if you wrote a cheque to someone over six months ago that you're off the hook from paying it! Cheques actually remain legally valid for six years - yes, I did say six years - and the only way to cancel a cheque is to ask for a 'stop' to be placed on it. However, cheques backed by a cheque guarantee card cannot be stopped."
