Sky broadband - starting to charge

  • £5 broadband is still extremely competitive. For those who have a more complete package, it is free; a good reward :)
  • Be CAreful if you talk to BT about call plan. They offer free evening & weekend free but tie you in for 12 months which means you cannot take Sky Talk even if you wanted to.

I was only told about this purely by chance as I cancelled my sky movies and over the phone I asked for the price which landed up being the same and she then informed me that although I had taken off the movies, my broadband had gone up by £5...considering it was only £10 to start with...this seems pretty excessive to me..oh and I check every letter etc and never received any notice of this.

Moving to Virgin media this week!

In October, I got my landline switched on for this house- I took their Evening & Weekends package. About a month later, hubby cancelled Sky TV, and I resubscribed under my name (free Sky+ box promo) We also took up Broadband and SkyTalk with them. Never heard anything from BT about it, and all we have had to pay BT was the calls we made for that first month before switching to SkyTalk- and the only bill we have been getting since is for the line rental!

Deeply regret taking Broadband and SkyTalk now though. The Broadband is pathetic- I pay for the 'Connect' package, and I am lucky, during the day, if I break 2mb- and in the evening I am lucky to get 300kb! The Sky Talk is also poor. The interference on the line is bad, and the person on the other end of the line sounds so distant and quiet even with the volume set to max! I never had this problem with BT.

I also haven't received either sets of M&S vouchers yet. One set for being recommended by a friend- the other for me recommending a friend! Grrrrr

Rant over  But I feel a lot better now.

I am sure there are quite a lot of you in the same boat

Spoke to retentions via 01506831600 complaining about the price increase, said I would be going to O2 broadband, they offered me free broadband for the base (2Mb) for 6 months. Looks like I'll be stopping with them for a while longer.

Have you got a telephone line connected up with skybox if so take their phone line out might boost up your speed.

When I was on Sky Max I used to have the same problem with speed dropping in the evenings and even freezing.Switching the router off and on again would cure the problem temporarily, but as I was only getting 6 Megs I downgraded to base and now get a steady 1.75 Megs.No more problems.

I thought most broadband services were for a minimum 12 month contract.

Most are, but not all, the good ones don't need to stitch customers up for 12/18 months.

There is no contract when you take out skytalk and can be cancelled at anytime. However if you cancel it you will then face an increase in broadband subscriptions.
