Sky broadband - starting to charge

Not a grabit but since we talk about sky deals here think its worth adding.
Credit goes to AGJ22526259 who spotted this but if you are like me and dont check the telephone forum or get a statement you might miss this.
Basically they will start to charge or increase the charge by £5 a month if you dont take skytalk. Skytalk can be free but you need sign up to a 12 month contract so there will be no more deals for those that do.
from Sky website *From 1.3.09, Sky Broadband Base, Mid and Max will increase by £5 per month unless you have Sky Talk. Sky Talk pricing and call rates may vary, current rates can be found at sky.com/skytalk.

I genuinely think minimum contracts in the telephony/broadband field should be avoided if at all possible. There are just too many variables and things that can go wrong. You just have to read the forums at thinkbroadband to see that you can end up being stuck with a rubbish service due to having to buy yourself out of it in order to move. Just my thoughts.Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

I thought most broadband services were for a minimum 12 month contract.
To the OP, you are right, this isnt a grabbit and should not be here even for the reason you gave, as it is already discussed in the correct place.
As for Sky charging, they will have told/be telling customers as they are obliged to do. You cant blame Sky if you dont read the email/letter or whatever way they inform you.0 -

I bet there are hundreds of MSE who dont look at the telephone boards but look here everyday and always look out for the sky threads here so to be honest the mods might not agree but expect many MSE will. though there will always be those that dont.
happy for it to be moved but hope that everyone gets to view it for the reasons I have mentioned0 -
I received a completely seperate notification letter from them as well as an e-mail telling me about the charge.0

agreed from what i gather, Sky have been very good at giving several months notice about this... the MIL got contacted about this a while ago now..(although as an existing talk customer it was more of a "good news arent we ace!" letter)0 -
No one told me ....Or maybe they did .I will check pile of old letters lol.Does anyone else keep loosing connection with sky broadband..or is it just me.I appreciate Each and Every win. I thank every comp poster from the bottom of my heart :A0

i got sky broadband mid since august 2008.My connection is dropping all the time for example today i had in the morning 6Meg then 200kbit sometimes i got 400kbit all day.
CALLED SUPPORT FEW TIMES ALREADY, NOW TIRED TO CALL THEM AGAIN, I GAVE UP.0 -
IIRC, from what I was reading over at skyuser.co.uk (at the time the letters first went out .....about 2 months ago), if you have been on Sky Max since before the end of Nov then your price will stay at the current rate until 2010.0

you're as well popping by www.skyuser.co.uk and posting your line stats up.0 -
My Mum immediately spotted the £5 increase on her bill. Her broadband connection is abysmal and she is cancelling the whole package (and not interested in retention deals).
I wonder how many people will leave Sky because of this? Afterall £5 is quite a hike in price.0
