If you have a BT landline, you can have the choice of any ADSL broadband provider, just like the rest of the UK.

This has nothing to do with LLU.

yes i know that. but the OPs post was regarding getting a BT connection to (i assume) a new house - ie the actual wires having to come across the road, - as did my house - we required a new pole and wires.

I stated that I thought BT was the only ones who could erect the new wires - topherxp came along and said no this was not correct and named the following "Telecom, Primus, Yourcalls.net, first:telecom, OneBill Telecom " and said you could rent your phone line from them - this I know, but I am asking will these companies actually erect the actual physical phone lines?

My point was then that even if they could surely the phoneline would not be BT and therefore pretty useless as you need a BT landline to get access to internet services.

I'm sorry if I'm being stupid, but it appears no one is understanding what i'm saying.

Openreach are the only people who can/will connect a line, this includes erecting poles etc. Any telecoms company can ,if they wish, ask openreach to connect a line for you, that includes BT retail and presumably the list of companies given to you for NI. Openreach then bill your telecoms company who pass on the charge (with a bit extra) to you.
Please note that not all companies are willing to go to the bother of getting a line connected for you, preferring for you to get BT retail to do it, that could be the case in NI.
PS I am excluding Virgin cable in all of the above.
