Cost of laying a new carpet?

Could anyone give me a rough estimate of how much it would cost to lay a carpet in a room approx 4m x 6m please?
Also, would the cost be considerably cheaper if the underlay and gripper rods are already in place, so it's just a case of laying and fitting the actual carpet?
Cheers

Allied quoted me £2.65 per sq mtre recently, for fitting and £8.99 for decent underlay. I didnt take them up on their offer. A local carpet fitter ( found him in the local paper) did the job for £50. I already had the gripper and underlay0

Thanks, but it's not something I'm looking to have done, just checking on rough prices to make sure someone isn't getting ripped off by an ex-landlord!"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"
