Check your Kaupthing accounts!

Last July I opened three three-year fixed term accounts with KE. In October I closed one, so two left. I was assured that the rates and conditions on the other two would be honoured. So imagine my surprise when I went to check them just now and both term accounts had been dumped into my basic savings account just over a week ago without my knowledge. I was on the point of transferring the whole lot out and feeling really annoyed, when I decided to ring them up and ask them about it. The woman said it looked like a mistake had been made (?!) and she would send the details to head office. If it was their mistake, then they would reinstate them. However, it occurred to me that there might be others out there who aren't aware that this has happened to them, so I would suggest that everybody just checks their KE accounts to make sure they are running ok. Meantime, I hope they establish what happened to my accounts and reinstate them quickly - she said it would take at least two days to get back to me though.

Yes their competence round these issues is still questionable. I took the penalty & withdrew my KE ftb & my ING ftb but there is no option to withdraw my Heritable ftb. I asked for a written confirmation that ING acknowledged having my Heritable deposit. They did so on Heritable headed paperwork that still showed Landsbanki ownership and didn't mention ING at all!
  • Had a six month (why could'nt I have been more ambitious) ftd mature last week and the interest was paid at the 6.85% they promised. The lot was then dropped back into my easy access at 3.5%.
Despite a lot of criticism made of ING by some posters, I personally cannot fault them and will continue to deposit to my easy access account. As far as guarantees go I am begining to feel safer with the Dutch government than I am with "home" banks.

I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.
  • Mine are fine, thanks. What a tonic, loadsa dosh at 7.67% for nearly another 3 years, all put in as people were rushing to take money out of Iceland. Lubbly Jubbly.
