credit card debt company

Please can anyone advise ?

My partner is sorting his divorce settlement and there is an outstanding joint liabiltiy he needs to deal with . About 10 years ago he went to a company to combine their depts ie credit card bills and were given a monthly payment to make ..these payments are still ongoing ! he has asked in writing several times for a list of the depts the amount owning and who they now belong to from this company and they never reply, as he would now wish to aproach them himself and make offers to pay off the outstanding balance . he is paying alot of money to the company for their 'service' and we feel the debts should have well been paid after all this time but acording to the satement he sometimes gets he still owes almost half the origional debt ! he was origionally told ths should be cleared withing about 6 years ..what can he do? seems wrong to me .
many thanks
