Sony blank CDs and DVDs at B&Q (merged)

I had a fair bit of trouble with discs recently. A Toshiba drive (as fitted to a Lidl PC) wouldn't play with certain types of disc, including some datawrite titaniums with the CMC dye. It seemed happy with Ritek G04 and G05 though. Then I found it having trouble with some TDK RWs as well, and tried the Datawrites with G05 which had previously been fine. Now they wouldn't play ball. Incidentally all the discs were fine in two other drives (Sony and Pioneer).
So I got fed up and when SVP were having a voucher deal, bought myself a new drive. On installing it I found that the writer was installed as the slave drive so swapped these over. Now with the new drive, any disc I throw at it will work, and I'm just using Ghost to back up the data drive. I'm on my 18th disc as I type!!.0 -
Anyone know what the dye is in the Sony -r? I have a very choosy DVD burner that has a preference for ritek dye. Just looking on https://www.videohelp.org, but need to know the dye and/or media code as there are 3 sony 8x discs on there.0

The -R come up as SONY08D1
I thought I'd bought the +R but they are -R. I usually prefer +R so I can booktype them.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

In which case, they should be these:

oddly the code comes up as -R only
They come up as very reliable and the link shows which burners and players they are compatible with.0 -
Chuffy, What type of writer do you have?
CDFreaks forums is the best place for burning + quality info on discs. (Lots of quality scans posted).Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

I've got a Sony DW-U14A (flashed firmware) and an LG-4163BL.
I also have a panasonic DRM 55.0 -
In B&Q - Altrincham (few) & Warrington (plenty), so presumably other stores as well; cheapest I've seen, particularly for a well-known brand.
And only £4.48 on a Weds. with an OAP!
Sorry, hadn't noticed similar thread, although as all others are talking about DVD's, I wouldn't have clocked it as I haven't got a DVD recorder, so only interested in the CD's!0
