Is this Hi-Life Card a Scam???

Options
I didnt know which forum to put this on,Please help if you can.

Im just wondering if anyone has heard of the Hi-Life Card and whether it is a scam or not.
It is mainly for the north west - and quotes 1600 restaurants over the Uk with 2 for 1 meals - no restrictions.

If anyone has a card please can you tell me whether it is or not a scam and if it is worth it.

They currently have 2months free (with money for a year taken after 2 months), so im wondering about doing the 2months, but it still requires credit card straight away???

Cheers

I guess most of these offers are available without the card if you look.

This is legitimate, its been running for well over 20 years I'm sure. My parents used to have 1 and as they used to go out to club dinners and such quite frequently and so a few of their friends go them and they used to go to the listed restaurants.
There far more week offers or 2 for 1 offers now than there used to be, so you have to weight up which is more cost effective.

I had one for a couple of years and got my money's worth from them. Eventually couldn't be bothered to consult the directory when we went out for a meal so ditched it. If you are disciplined it works well!

Both myself and my husband had one for a months free trial. We really enjoyed ourselves, tried different restaurants. The georgetown in Leeds allows you to use this on the georgetown experience, great bargain.

We both cancelled, prior to the end of the trial and have not been charged!!!

The only thing I would suggest is that you check with the restaurant, when booking, what the bogof entitles you too. We found most included rice as a meal, so we got the second one free, (usualy up to 3 courses/meals free,)however, some (as with other offers!!) may inc rice etc as a sundrie, so you have to pay for both!!!! Or some may give you the rice free as that was the cheaper "meal"!!

I have to say that all the restaurants we went to gave us a full meal free!!!

Well worth it especially as it is free!!

We had this last year and it saved us a fortune. Especially that time we had a party of 20 people and everyones meals were BOGOF!

Over the year the card paid for itself several time over. Well worth it if you're disciplined enough to plan ahead and check the directory.

I can confirm this is a legitimate scheme that has been going for many years and is based in Poulton, just outside Blackpool. It is still run by one of the founders.

GAZBERT: just one question do you have to have multiple cards for more than 2 people dinning - or can you blag it with just one card???

You get a guide book when you join which tells you of all the participating restaurants, the average cost of a three course meal, how many courses you have to have, when exclusions apply and how many cards you would need if more than two are dining.

My parents had a card for ages and we always chose where we ate out from the book to get our moneys worth.

I have a card that I bought for myself and my parents got a second one at a reduced rate of £15. We find it well worth while and it means we can try places we havent used before.
Always call to see if restaurants are still participating in the scheme ( a couple in my book dont anymore) and to check the restrictions as the book /website isnt always correct.
In the Book they give you a 0870 number to call via their lines to the restaurant. Of course you find the number online and call direct.
Strictly speaking you dont need the book as logging in to the members area on the website with your card number gives you all the info online. The search facility on the site isnt that great though.
Some places will let you use 2 cards for 4 people or more but again I urge you to check.
I got my leeds card through a link for £30 for 12 months. Pm me if you want to know where.
  • DEFINITELY get one, you more than make your money back and its well worth it, me and my wife have had one for about 3 years now and couldnt do without it!
    Thanks

    Dave
