Evening all
We have just confirmed our tickets for the match yay!
We are going to drive as the train etc are silly prices. To fly isn't bad but we have to be back in work on Tuesday.
Anyhooo. We don't know, where to go or what we can expect to pay. We want to be able to find and park easilly (don't 'do' city driving too well, particularly 'strange' city) and then leave the car alone until the drive home Monday morning.
Any suggestions of a cheap, cheerful but clean and respectable place to stay within staggering distance of Murrayfield?
Oooooo I can't wait.

You'll be lucky!!! Expect to pay £££££.
My advice would be search on Edinburgh hotels and B&b, but the Corstorphine area, not Murrayfield. Easy bus journey straight to Murrayfield, and easy to find off city bypass. Or Travellodge at Haymarket is very good location. West end of city. DO IT NOW!!
See you there by the way.0 -
There are several travelodge, travel inns and an ibis in Edinburgh. The Lothian buses do an all day pass for around £3.00. Murrayfield is on a bus route and there are many buses on that route.0

Problem with the Travelodges in the west end of Edinburgh is there is no parking and you can't park on the street either - its controlled parking and the wardens are lethal up here.
I would be inclined to find somewhere that definitely has parking and is on a decent bus route - as a PP stated, Corstorphine is handily located.
Otherwise you might want to consider staying out of town and use the park and ride facilities the city has to get to Murrayfield by bus.
Doing this you could consider Livingston for instance - and park at Ingliston or Hermiston park and ride on the western outskirts of the city.
Good luck - hope you can find something suitable and not too expensive!0 -
Thanks people
After many phone calls and e mails it seems an awful lot of places are already booked out and the parking bit was turning into a bit of a nightmare. So, we are now flying. Yes, I know not very MSE but quite frankly the price isn't too bad considering and it is a LONG drive. More to the point, I want to have as much time to look around Edinburgh as I can. By flying we will have time to take in a few sights Saturday aft/eve and Sun morn.
Now everything is booked and sorted I can just relax and look forward to it.
I love the Wales/Scottish game. One of us will be wearing red... the other blue.:D0 -
to get to the city try http://www.edinburghshuttle.com/, cheaper than taxi, and faster than bus if your away from centre.
You can just hop on, turn left out of terminal to bus stances, or book online.0 -
Or you can get a No 35 bus from the airport into town, £1 flat fare (unless the prices have gone up since December when I was last in Edinburgh)
You've got to be quick to get accommodation in Edinburgh when the rugby's one.
Hope you're flying via somewhere else? I remember speaking to a crowd of Irish guys one year that flew to Cardiff from Dublin and then flew Cardiff Edinburgh - it was much cheaper than the direct flight....0 -
Oooo there is some sort of bus that I was looking at........ N22 or something.
I'm not too worried, there appears to be good links.
We are flying straight from Cardiff. Pleeeeeease don't tell me we could have gone much cheaper...... I so hate it when that happens. I think we have paid around £150 each ...... pricey but hey..... it's a rare treat.
I'm really looking forward to it.0 -
Going to this too! Paid £60 each for tickets (from the official website), we booked late but is this normal?
No idea where we are gonna park or how we'll get there!0 -
The Travelodge between the Royal Mile/Cowgate (St Marys?) has parking. Think it is a tenner a day, which is reasonable for the area.
Watch the hotels at that end of town. I've had the displeasure of having a booking for a hotel accepted at one price, only to have them come back a few days later, claiming it is unavailable & trying to gazump me up to something more expensive or to shift me to a B&B miles from anywhere.
Which is why I largely stick to the travelodge type places now - at least you get what you pay for.
Livingston Travelodge is also very practical for that end of town. No hassle & It is quite new etc.0 -

Use one of the Park and Ride around the periphery of Edinburgh, parking is free and the bus is £1.20 into town. To get a direct bus to Murrayfield if coming from the West best to use the Park and Ride at Ingliston near the airport.

Airport bus details are here...

This is an express bus with limited stops between the Airport and town but will go past Murrayfield and there will be a stop in that area.
Enjoy the match and my Mum's half of me will be shouting for Wales and the rest of me will be shouting for Scotland.:rotfl:0
