Do all double glazing companies have to be FENSA registered?

We had about 50% of our windows double glazed this year with Design Systems in Surrey. Because of the arrival of a new baby at the same time I never chased up the FENSA certificates - we had a couple more windows done just before Christmas and they promised they would be sent, and they still haven't appeared.

I have emailed and phoned and get no response.

I am now starting to worry that they are not even FENSA certifcated but could they actually trade if they weren't? They seemed a reputable company and were actually recommended to me by this forum! :o

Please help! :A

  • i would phone fensa to check .not all companies are fensa registered some work with a company called certass whos conditions are not quite as stringent .sometimes certificates can take a few months to come through.and then there are companies who arnt registered with anybody and expect you to go through the council the onus is on you the homeowner

    No.

Replacement windows fall within the scope of building regulations and as a result if you replace your windows you have to seek approval from your local building control departyment unless you use an installer which is a member of one of the three self-certification schemes. FENSA is far and away the best known of these - the others are CERTASS and the BSI one I can't remember the name of.

FENSA will tell you if the company you used is a FENSA member, and go after them if they are not (usually with the local trading standards office). Give them a ring.

  • Thanks guys - finally got an email back from them today saying they were chasing up the certificates. I didn't know how the system worked and assumed that it was the company that issued the certificates!

If they'd only answered my emails the whole problem would have been averted - communication is key eh?!

    Thank you again.
