Hi, first post but great site. My girlfriend was diagnosed with depression at the beginning of December and had to take a couple of weeks off work. She managed to cope with most things but she forgot that she has 2 direct debits that came out of her Natwest account. She has had this account for years and has never gone overdrawn before.
she got her statement and found she was £180 overdrawn
the 2 direct debits were for £7.05 and £7.63 both for pet insurance for her 2 cats.
so she got hit for
£28 charge
£76 charge 2nd jan (2 lots of £38)
£76 charge 9th jan (2 lots of £38)
she phoned them and the customer advisor said, yes your account history is perfect but there is nothing we can do about the charges ??
i told her to call back and explain the situation again, she did and she was put through to their debt management team and told that she had to go on a 6 month debt management plan
can anyone help with any advice ? it seems unbelievable to incur £180 in charges for £14 worth of debits
