Worst hotel I've ever stayed in in this country was a Comfort Inn. Comfortable it was not.

    Still, shocked they've gone down.

You'd think, with the economy and the fall in sterling, people would be queueing up to book cheap UK holidays.

Yes I imagined the offer went down a storm.

Trouble is there probably isn't much profit in a £9 a night room? I also read these were for rooms that would have stayed empty anyway (unpopular midweek nights in obscure places). Anything that had a hint of selling at the usual rate (about £55 I think) was not reduced.
Surely empty rooms mean no income what so ever yet staff still need paying therefore filling empty rooms might mean these company's can stay afloat.

Interesting I wonder how Travel Lodge and Premier are faring in this climate then?

They must have huge loans that will need servicing and rolling over from time to time......

Well i recently stayed at a travel lodge gatwick and it was dead as a dodo in the corridors, i also stayed at one in Wolverhampton and that was the same. The problem with these places is that they are just so big!
  • I work for Premier Inn and it is always quiet at this time of year. Hopefully things will soon pick up.

I think it runs several of the hotels under license. Presumably in the event of insolvency the licensee will want to retake control.

In the last recession the largest chain of hotels was Trust House Forte.
The second largest traded as "The Receiver and Manager.........".

I think it is more a franchise style arrangement where the hotels are operated by Real Hotels under a Choices Hotels brand. If that were the case, Choices would have to do more than retake control - they would have to buy the hotel from the administrator first (or arrange a new let with the landlord) and may then be liable for any unpaid bills. It is probably more likely that Choices would just walk away and disassociate themselves.
  • hi im new to this so please bear with me.

our wedding is at the southcrest hotel in redditch on valentines day this year! (3 weeks today) this hotel is part of the real hotel group. the administrators have told us that in there eyes its going ahead but cannot promise anything! its too late for us to book else where so we have to wait and see.

Only an opinion loopylou but it takes a fair amount of time to wind up a business/try and find a buyer, especially when its main value is a business(as opposed to its stock) so i recon 3 weeks is pretty certain to stay open.

I agree with pasturesnew about hotels being a rip off, i go away with work quite a bit and frankly the rooms are a total rip off, they cost the same as a posh managed apartment with all the goodies like wifi, playstations, fully furnished kitchen etc.

Also in a hotel room you get woken up by people wandering about outside and are basicly living in a bedsit, fine for a night but not if you are staying much longer.
