Hello everyone i was wondering if you could help me out
I live in a shared house where we split the bills monthly. I am not sure the bills are being split correctly and want to check it myself before i pay any more money out.
I have/can get the readings at the start of the month for the last two months but don't know how to convert this is no pounds and pence.
Does anyone know of a website where i can drop in the relevant details, or could you detail the steps i need to calculate the bill(s)
Thanks for any help
Spence

You need to know which tariff you're on. You'll then have a price of pence per kwh. Your electricity units are kwh so if you have used 100 units, you have to pay for 100kwh.
For gas, you have to convert your meter units to kwh (roughly times 11 for metric meter units or times 31 for imperial units).
To be really accurate, you need to know prices including VAT and after any discounts (duel fuel, DD etc) and take account of any standing charge.
You could ring your supplier and give meter readings - they will calculate the cost for you.0 -

The suppliers will calculate the total owed
Take bill, divide equally by number of housemates (or in whatever proportion you've agreed) and pay your share
However, bills tend to be produced quarterly, not monthly.
If you are paying monthly, you are not paying the bill. In which case, find out how much per month the supplier wants and divide that by number of housemates. Whether that's too much or too little is tough (unless you can negotiate a revised monthly payment with the supplier) - any difference will be returned/demanded later either by a revision to monthly payment or in lump sum. Where a lump sum settllement is involved, that should be divided by number of housemates."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
