Now 60 - Car Insurance next month. Tips please?

Options
Hello all,

I used the PO £50 cashback insurance last year, have had the reminder, but recall reading a year ago that others had no luck obtaining the cashback on renewal basis quotes.

I'll go with anyone who gives me a good deal.

I should perhaps add that I've just had a £100 personal docs payout from AXA(the PO insurers for me)who have been wonderful after a bad theft of my bag from the locked boot of my locked car late October, without affecting my NC bonus.

Am wondering whether this would alter if I change insurers.

Hope it doesn't seem cheeky to bump my own post.

I have sometimes decided to quit a policy with an insurer - eg Tesco and then take out a new one [with incentives] with them to come into effect straight away afterwards. They tend not to give the incentives in the second year because they think they have you safely re-newing. You have to bear in mind though that if you decide to cancel the policy a few months in on a new policy, you dont always get as much of a refund as if you had one continuous term in excess of the first year. Good luck with discounts,

Thankyou weanie - I recall this point being made by other posters a year ago, already PO clients who were somewhat narked when they couldn't have £50. I know some found ways of reinventing themselves as new customers - didn't see any such incentive up in village store/PO this morning though.
I suspect they'll be as thin on ground as Mr T points extras for some time.

  • With all Insurances its very wise to shop around as strongly advised byMartin L.I renewed my car Ins this week and got £75 off by using confused.com with another provider ..(paid for over half the car tax ) it really does what it says on the tin...I mean ad...and I cheekily asked for all the discounts I could think of..
  • Don't forget to go via Quidco if you can. Check out the best few quotes & then see if they are on Quidco or other cashback sites so you also get money back too.
Remember to delete all cookies. I always use Firefox for quidco - I have it set up that all cookies are deleted automatically when I close Firefox.
Bought mine last September with RAC offering £70 cashbook + a years free RAC. I should get the cashback but payment date has been put back twice from December - but is is validated.
RAC on the price comparisons for myself came up about 3rd placed around £10 more than the 1st or 2nd BUT add in the free RAC cover too & it worked out a good deal.
When I get the cashback - I'm not saying IF as it tracked & validated - it works out a great deal.

I've just tried Quidco for the first time. Its price came out £50 dearer than using Endsleigh direct. I posted on the Insurance thread as I wondered how often this happens.

Moneysupermarket showed £138 for the Post Office, so I rang for a renewal price, quoting the best at £122. Their renewal quote was £166, a discount from 'real' price of £178!

I have tried to get a further discount by quoting Swinton and Diva. The reply from a snooty sounding young lad was " I wish I could get car insurance for under £200! This was spoken not in envy, but a tone of a real put down!

Last year The Post Office were charming everyone in the post offices with their leaflets!
    Grrr!

Just had a great deal from Saga. £134 basic, £144 with protected NC. I was offered a quote for house insurance, which would take £20 off this car insurance. I took it, of course, and got car insurance for £124. I can pay monthly for no extra charge which also helps the budget.:j

BTW the house quote was also great. Will probably take it.
