Have downloaded Seatools to a floppy (as per the site's instructions) and tried to boot up but I am getting an error message something along the lines of
"invalid system disk please replace and press any key"
What do I need to do?

You need to create a bootable disc first, recreate the format process and select "make a boot disc" then copy over the files, easy this innit!0

I think your time would be better spent with a pile of blank CD/DVD's in front of you and backing everything up while the drive is still running.
It may never boot again so you may lose the lot if you haven't got backups.
If you do have backups already, it will be a good experience to learn all this stuff.0 -
I have already backed up everything that I could not bare to lose. Thanks anyway. If you do have backups already, it will be a good experience to learn all this stuff.
Sorry not sure what you mean by the above quote, I assume "this stuff" refers to what I am doing? You need to create a bootable disc first, recreate the format process and select "make a boot disc" then copy over the files, easy this innit!
As to the bootable disc I thought that is what I did??????
According to the seagate website I was to insert disc in drive and follow online instructions, which included run or save, so I saved it to the floppy!
I have changed the boot up sequence so it will read the floppy on boot up but I get the error mentioned above.0 -
Open Explorer
Right click on the A: drive and choose FORMAT
Have a look at the options, one of them will say "Make a bootable disk" or something similar.
Do that first, and then save those files to the floppy0 -
Thanks for that did not know you needed to format disk before (seagate site just said a blank disk!)

Now to my next problem, I formatted the disk, clicking on "create a MS-DOS startup disk" but when I go to save the diagnostics it states that there is not enough space on disk. The formatting takes up 556KB (showing 867KB left) and a need 1.18MB for the diagnostics!
Help!

Write the files to another blank disk (not a bootable one)
Start the machine with the bootable disk in
When you reach the A: prompt, change the disks over
Run the program0 -
Thanks for getting back to me so quick! :A
I will give it ago!0 -
loaner,
:T :T :T I am so glad you told me you need to run the program to create the floppy! I of course did not and it did not work.
 I was so angry with myself for not being able to do it I have avoided the pc!
I have now followed your instuctions and will attempt to run the diagnostics again. If you don't hear from me in a few hours it will be because I have chucked the damn pc out the window

Hi Electra King
Maxtor has a 3 year warranty on their drives. You can check the warranty on your drive here: http://support.seagate.com/customer/warranty_validation.jsp
You can get the Serial No. from the drive label. It is also shown when you run SeaTools.
If your drive is still in warranty you need to continue on with the site to get an RMA number so that you can send it to Seagate in Derby for a replacement.0
