Stop rebooting after STOP error ?

A colleagues computer keeps having STOP errors after installing Kaspersky on Vista.
The STOP error is so fast that we cannot read it. Is there a way to make the computer stay on the STOP error and not restart ?

Can you reboot the computer into Safe Mode with either F5 or F8 on bootup?0

Unfortunately, I don't have Vista, but on XP, I'd boot into Safe Mode (pressing F8 as soon as you see the Windows logo screen to get the startup menu, scroll down to Safe Mode and press Return).
When that comes up, you need to go into Control Panel, open the System applet. In there, there's the Advanced tab, and on that there's an Error Reporting button - click that to open all the options and make sure the recovery option for fatal errors isn't set to "Restart".
Hopefully someone else with more Vista knowledge will be along soon

I will email her this. I don't have the system in front of me and only have an XP system at work. I have seen the option on Vista before. I am sure you are correct..0

It's weird how Microsoft made the default "Restart" for handling fatal errors: I can understand why if they're something that clears after a restart, but something like "STOP" should always be handled by, well, stopping the machine so you can look at the info - a tech support person may need it.0

True, but unless it's a hardware error then you can get back into Windows and review the logs and dump files produced at the time of the critical stop.0 -
anewhope: yep, as long as you've remembered to enable the dump file, but Windows does have the viewer tool for it, I think.0

Without even going into those, the Event Logs usually are populated. The Debugging Tools for Windows are a seperate download, and then you need to download the Symbols packs for each revision of Windows you want to analyse with it. Great tools though, cut right to the source of the problem.0
