Lies from NatWest?

in Credit cards
I recently telephoned to confirm receipt of cards through the post. The NatWest employee said that I should have fraud insurance and insisted that I was liable for the first £5,000 of fraud. I was sure that he was wrong and told him but he insisted. Checking up, I found that he was knowingly giving false info to make the sale. Anyone else had this experience?
OK - its been done many times, but by a bank, where you are the customer, and the bank needs positive PR rather than negative.

How do you know he "knowingly" gave false info? He's just another in a long line of people who are paid to answer the phone. Some are more accurate than others, all read from scripts and some weren't listening as well as others when they were training for the job. It's not rocket science.
If you think he's lied rather than misinformed then complain to the bank.0 -
Did you take out the insurance?0

It's £50 not £5000, and most banks will waive it...0
