Don't they get paid by the Insurance company?

How can they be totally impartial?

I knew you would say that, and I can understand that reasoning, but how else would you arrange for the loss adjuster to be paid? The insured has already paid their premium, which provides them with the cover and the cost of the claim being dealt with. Effectively they are paying for the loss adjuster, out of their premium, and it wouldn't be fair to expect them to pay again.

In all my years of working for insurance companies and loss adjusters I can't recall any instructions to make savings on claims that aren't justified. I do however think it is only right and proper that loss adjusters won't recommend payment of fraudulent or over-exaggerated claims.

If loss adjusters were totally impartial, then there would be no call for assessors.

Maybe - I'm not sure how much of bad loss adjusting is down to people being bad at their job (or too busy, understaffed etc) rather than not being impartial.
  • I'd just like to make it clear that at no point have I suggested that Crawford and Co were acting impartially or favourably for the insurance company. I only asked how they were paid and stated that I'd had issues with the communications.

The last thing I want is someone from Crawford's taking offence to this.

    Thanks.
  • Hi

I have the same problem of escape of water, but we own our semi. This happened between 31/12/10 & 4/01/11 and we have not seen any one yet come to dry our home yet.
Our Loss adjustors are Crawco & they seem to be at a loss why Chemdry the other service provider has completely failed/refused to turn up and start drying our home, Chemdry claim they havent received authorisation from Crawco. Its 4 weeks now and our property is moulding, the smell is atrocious and its heartbreaking watching one's belongings earned over years and lovingly kept, rotting from damp. Our home is almost a total loss and will need major work. We have found a temporary home and been offered a "furniture pack". Which allegedly does not include Curtains or Blinds (for velux windows) and they say they will not pay for fitting these in temp accom as it will ultimately not benefit our home or property.

We are still in the dark about when the drying out work starts and are worried that the insurance will not cover the replacement of the damaged and now moulding contents. Will they Clean, decontaminate & return our clothes, its getting scary. Some of our clothes & shoes really did cost a packet! Can we ask for another officer/loss adjustor or is this self defeating?

Thank you for your responces.

If you feel that things are not moving quickly enough then you should raise a complaint.

Ring the loss adjusters, be firm but not rude and ask if a manager can review your file urgently.

All the loss adjusting companies, plus contractors, are absolutely snowed under with work due to burst pipe claims, so if you leave it then yours will just stay at the bottom of the pile. I doubt there is any point in asking it to be allocated to another adjuster as I think they are pretty much all in the same boat. I do believe that one loss adjusting firm has refused to take any more work.

Thanks Geri1965 Well we have taken your advise and our property has been emptied, they have delivered a load of drying equipment, the company have said the plaster & wall tiling need to be hacked off to the bare brick for the drying to start & be effective, But they still have installed the equipment!!! I reckon now we are waiting for the drying and worried about the effects that will have on the woodwork, floors, ceilings etc! But at least things are looking p or so we think! Do you reckon we need our own Assessor and if so which ones do you recommend, in the northwest?

    Cheers SlinkyDel. :T
