Ps2 Games On A Ps1 System

Can anyon answer why a ps2 game cant be played on a ps1 system ? I know you can the other way round ps2 on a ps1.
Is it due to the gubbins in the ps2 being better ?

You've lost me ... you CAN play PS1 on a PS2 ... you CANNOT play PS2 on a PS1 ... however you cannot play copied games on a PS2 unless you have it illegally chipped / modded.

A lot of PS2 games are on DVDs, so obviously these are ruled out as PS1 only has a CD reader. The specs of the PS1 are also so vastly inferior to the PS2 that even if the PS1 could read the discs, it doesn't have the power to do anything about playing them.

If you mean playing PS1 games on a PS2 then I think most games should work as the PS2 is backwards compatible but I am not sure on how many PS1 games actually work on a PS2

Actually, i don't think its ilegal to chip a ps2.i know you can chip a gamecube and XBOX. its not ilegal to "back up" a game as long as you legaly bought it(and are going to sell them etc...)

I have over 300 ps1 games,haven't found any that don't play on ps2 yet.
