I have Mortgage Protection Insurance with Norwich Union. Cost £17.00 a month and paid out £580.00 a month, for up to 12 months. Used it for 10 months recently and they were really efficient. Had absolutely no problems with the claim which kicked in one month after registering as unemployed.

if its for mortgage primarily, I always go with the same company my mortgage is with - that way if they wont pay out and you cant pay mortgage - there is something about they only have themselves to blame and you only have one conversation as opposed to being pushed from pillar to post.

I have Income insurance which pays 75% of my salary when i was made redundant so effectively with jsa and ctb I have the same income as when i was working.
I am with Ant Insurance (recommended by this site). It cost me £26 a month. (These policies have gone up somewhat but I still think well worth it) No problems claiming at all and very efficient company to deal with. There website is down at the moment as they are relauncing it on 2nd Feb. They have a tool on their site and you can tailor your policy to what ever you want. Worth a look at.
